Raman Touch Award

Raman spectroscopy as an analytical technique has been demonstrated to be incredibly useful to a great number of industries and applications. To help gain recognition for the Raman technique, we are proud to announce the creation of the Raman Touch Award. The Raman Touch Award will honor three individuals who have made significant contributions to advancing the human condition through the use of Raman spectroscopy. Each of the three regional winners will receive an award plaque, a $2,000 honorarium and will be honored in Thermo Fisher Scientific communications and at a recognition award event.

The Raman Touch Award will focus on how Raman spectroscopy has been used to “touch” and advance our world within one of the six domains defined below. Each individual who is selected to win an award will be recognized specifically for using Raman spectroscopy to advance one of these six domains. We hope that this award will bring greater recognition to Raman spectroscopy and to the award winners who are using Raman to change the world. Our hope is that this added recognition will accelerate the use of the technique and further our mission of enabling people to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.

We are now accepting nominations for the Raman Touch Award. You are invited to submit nominations under any region convenient to you.

  • Americas Nomination
    Deadline: January 31, 2008
    • Award presented at PITTCON
March 2-7, 2008, New Orleans, USA
  • Europe/India Nomination
    Deadline: February 29, 2008
    • Award presented at Analytica
      April 1-4, 2008, Munich, Germany
  • Asia/Pacific Nomination
    Deadline: July 25, 2008
    • Award presented at JAIMA
September 3-5, 2008, Makuhari Messe, Chiba Prefecture, Japan

The domains the Raman Touch award will focus on are:

  • Energy
  • Health and Medicine
  • Industrial Materials
  • Environment
  • Product Safety/Quality
  • Culture

To nominate yourself or nominate a colleague, please provide complete reference information for an article published within the last three years. Articles should provide some evidence of an application for Raman that has either advanced or shown clear potential to advance one of the six domains of interest: Energy, Health and Medicine, Industrial Materials, Environment, Product Safety or Culture.

A Thermo Fisher Scientific committee will evaluate all entries. The winning selections will be chosen based on 1) the potential impact of the application on one of six domains of interest: Energy, Health and Medicine, Industrial Materials, Environment, Product Safety/Quality or Culture; 2) the extent to which the application has been developed and 3) the extent that application can be performed using commercially available  equipment or a modified version of a commercially available instrument. Winners will be chosen at the discretion of Thermo Fisher Scientific. One winner per application.

Winners must be able to attend an event to accept the award at ONE of the following:

  • Americas: PITTCON, March 2-7, 2008, New Orleans, USA
  • Europe/India: Analytica, April 1-4, 2008, Munich, Germany
  • Asia/Pacific: JAIMA, September 3-5, 2008, Makuhari Messe,
    Chiba Prefecture, Japan
